Thunder Bay man arrested for opioid trafficking following the death of a Longlac resident

LONGLAC, ON – A Thunder Bay resident faces drug trafficking charges following an investigation into a death in Longlac.

On April 3, 2023, at around 12:15 p.m., officers from the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency medical services responded to a fatal incident at a residence on Louisa Street. The deceased was identified as 51-year-old Rhonda Reuben of Longlac. A post-mortem examination was conducted at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto to determine the cause of death.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, on August 21, 2024, 42-year-old Travis Jackson of Thunder Bay was arrested and charged with Trafficking in a Schedule I substance – opioid, under Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is currently in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

The OPP Northwest Region Crime Unit, Regional Support Team, and OPP Forensic Identification Services, in collaboration with the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, the Office of the Chief Coroner, and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case.
