Nipigon Crime Report: Two Arrested Following Break-Ins and Robbery

NIPIGON, ON – Two men from Nipigon are facing multiple charges after a series of break-ins and a robbery in the early hours of August 15, 2024.

At approximately 2:20 a.m., officers from the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a 911 call on Hogan Road in Nipigon Township, where they discovered two injured men. A further investigation revealed that the same suspects had broken into a second residence.

By 9:00 a.m., OPP officers had located and arrested the two suspects without incident.

Charges:

  • Christopher BARNES-ODAWA, 32, of Nipigon:
    • Assault Causing Bodily Harm (2 counts)
    • Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
    • Break and Enter Dwelling House with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence (2 counts)
    • Robbery with Theft
    • Mischief Under $5,000 (2 counts)
  • Rodney WAWIA, 40, of Nipigon:
    • Assault Causing Bodily Harm (2 counts)
    • Break and Enter Dwelling House with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence (2 counts)
    • Robbery with Theft
    • Mischief Under $5,000 (2 counts)

Both accused are currently in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay at a later date.
