A late-night water rescue by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue saves a woman clinging to a bridge pilling in the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway
THUNDER BAY – NEWS – In the early hours of August 12, 2024, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to an urgent water rescue at the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway. Just after midnight, two pumpers and the Platoon Chief were dispatched to the scene, where a large crowd had gathered, concerned for the safety of a person reported to have entered the river and not returned to shore.
Upon arrival, firefighters quickly assessed the situation and determined that a woman was clinging to a bridge piling, struggling to stay above water. Firefighters, equipped with immersion suits and life jackets, entered the water to secure and rescue the woman. They provided her with a life jacket and safely escorted her to shore, where she was attended to by waiting paramedics.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to exercise caution around local waterways. Shorelines can be unpredictable, and water conditions can change rapidly, making them potentially dangerous, especially when rescue measures are not immediately available.
