Suspect Arrested Following Arson in Kasabonika Lake First Nation

KASABONIKA LAKE, ON – A male suspect has been arrested in connection with a structural fire that occurred in Kasabonika Lake First Nation over the weekend.

In the early hours of Sunday, August 11, an on-duty officer from the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) observed a construction trailer engulfed in flames. The trailer, which contained supplies intended for new home construction within the community, was severely damaged. The estimated damages are believed to exceed $5,000 CAD.

Following an investigation, police identified and arrested 21-year-old Jericho Jordan Kennedy Wabasse of Kasabonika Lake First Nation without incident on Sunday afternoon.

Wabasse faces multiple charges, including:

  • Arson – Disregard for Human Life
  • Arson – Damage to Property
  • Mischief Over $5,000

The accused appeared in bail court on Monday, August 12, and has been remanded into custody pending a future court appearance.
