Wildfire Update: Northeast Region Battles 25 Active Fires as Hazard Remains High

Current Fire Status
The Northeast Region is currently dealing with 25 active wildland fires. Of these, 17 are under observation, 3 are under control, 1 is being held, and 4 are not under control.

New Fire Developments
Four new fires were confirmed in the Northeast Region by the evening of August 6:

  • Cochrane 28 (COC028): A 10-hectare fire near Missisa Lake’s northern shore, observed since Tuesday morning.
  • Wawa 12 (WAW012): Held at 0.3 hectares, approximately 8 km north of Goudreau.
  • Sudbury 20 (SUD020): Measuring 0.1 hectares, west of Page Lake, 2 km north of Long Lake.
  • Parry Sound 6 (PAR006): Held at 0.1 hectares, southeast of Fourmile Island.

Fire Hazard Levels
The fire hazard is predominantly high to extreme across the Northeast Region. However, areas south and east of Lake Nipissing are experiencing a lower hazard, with conditions ranging from low to moderate.

Safety Warnings

  • No Drone Zone: Flying drones near forest fires is illegal and endangers lives. Stay clear!
  • Waterbomber Safety: Move to the shore when waterbombers approach, as they won’t scoop water if boats are nearby.

Reporting Wildfires

  • North of French and Mattawa Rivers: Dial 310-FIRE.
  • South of these rivers: Dial 9-1-1.
