THUNDER BAY – LIVING – There are as they say, two seasons in Thunder Bay, winter and construction season.

Thunder Bay roads department advises that a section of Simpson Street will be closed to traffic starting Friday, August 9, 2024, as crews begin major renewal work on underground infrastructure.

The closure will affect the stretch of Simpson Street between Ogden Street and Cameron Street. Traffic will be fully blocked off in this area, with detours directed via McKenzie Street and May Street. Signage will be in place to guide motorists.

This closure is expected to last 10 to 12 weeks as crews work to replace aging sewer, water, and stormwater infrastructure, as well as to resurface the roadway.

Pedestrian access along Simpson Street will remain available, but there may be intermittent sidewalk closures during certain phases of the construction.

Motorists are advised to reduce speed and exercise caution when driving near construction zones to ensure the safety of workers and pedestrians.
