Impaired Driving Charges Laid Following Traffic Stop in Conmee Township

Conmee Township, ON – Proactive traffic enforcement by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has led to the arrest of a 26-year-old driver for impaired driving in Conmee Township.

On August 3, 2024, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the OPP were conducting traffic enforcement along Highway 11/17 when they observed a vehicle speeding. The officers initiated a traffic stop and, upon further investigation, determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol.

The driver, identified as Connor COOK of Kakabeka Falls, was arrested and taken to the Thunder Bay Detachment for additional testing. As a result, COOK has been charged with multiple offenses under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act, and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, including:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Speeding 1-49 km/h Over Posted Limit
  • Fail to Have Insurance Card

COOK has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on September 4, 2024.

The OPP continues to emphasize the importance of road safety and is committed to removing impaired drivers from Ontario’s roads. Community members are encouraged to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
