Impaired Driving Charges Laid Following Traffic Complaint in Shuniah

Impaired Driving numbers are up in Thunder Bay. What should be done?

Shuniah, ON A traffic complaint on Lakeshore Drive in Shuniah has led to impaired driving charges against a local resident.

On August 5, 2024, at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspected impaired driver. Upon locating the vehicle, officers initiated a traffic stop.

Through their investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Jesse GUITARD of Shuniah, was arrested and transported to the Thunder Bay Detachment for further testing.

GUITARD has been charged under the Criminal Code with the following offenses:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Dangerous Operation

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on September 18, 2024.

The OPP remains dedicated to removing impaired drivers from the roads and continues to urge the public to report any suspected impaired driving by calling 9-1-1.
