MACHIN, ON – The Dryden Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), in collaboration with the Dryden OPP Detachment, has arrested and charged a local man with impaired operation and possession of unmarked cigarettes.

On the evening of July 25, 2024, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle matching the description of an overdue motorist report. While the driver was not the missing motorist, an investigation revealed that the individual was impaired by both alcohol and drugs and was found to be in possession of unmarked cigarettes. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the Dryden OPP Detachment for further testing.

As a result, 47-year-old Michael Mireault of Vermilion Bay has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Possession of unmarked cigarettes

Mireault has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on September 16, 2024, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Dryden.

The OPP remains dedicated to removing impaired drivers from our roads through strict enforcement and public education. They urge anyone who suspects impaired driving to call 9-1-1 immediately.
