Wildland Forest Wildfire Update

Current Fire Situation

Three new wildland fires have been confirmed in the Northwest Region by the early evening of July 25:

  • Red Lake 8 (RED008): 5.1 hectares, not under control, located 25 kilometers west of Deer Lake.
  • Thunder Bay 10 (THU010): 0.5 hectares, under control, located 37 kilometers northwest of Lake Nipigon.
  • Sioux Lookout 13 (SLK013): 10 hectares, being observed, located 5 kilometers west of Tokar Lake.

Active Fires

There are currently 9 active fires in the Northwest Region, each in various stages of control:

  • 1 fire is not under control.
  • 1 fire is being held.
  • 1 fire is under control.
  • 6 fires are being observed.

Fire Hazard Levels

The wildland fire hazard is moderate to high across most of the Northwest Region. However, there is an extreme fire hazard area stretching from the Manitoba border into Weeskayjahk Ohtahzhoganeeng Provincial Park. Safety Advisory

Waterbomber Safety:
When waterbombers approach a body of water, please move close to the shore to allow them to scoop water safely. Waterbombers will avoid scooping from lakes or rivers if watercraft are too close and pose a safety hazard. Stay clear to assist in firefighting efforts.

  • North of the French and Mattawa Rivers: Dial 310-FIRE
  • South of the French or Mattawa Rivers: Dial 9-1-1
