Residential Break & Enter – Arrest: C24-166597

Winnipeg – NEWS – On July 19, 2024, at approximately 6:47 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 300 block of Larsen Avenue for the report of a residential break-in in progress.

East District General Patrol officers attended the residence and observed an adult male suspect flee the property as they arrived. Officers engaged in a short foot pursuit, and members of the Canine Unit assisted officers by tracking the suspect to a yard in the 300 block of Bowman Avenue, who arrested him without incident. A canister of bear spray repellant and a cellular phone stolen from the residence were found on his person and seized as evidence. Officers confirmed the residents (a 34-year-old female, a 26-year-old male, and a 16-year-old male) were unharmed during the incident.

While in police custody, the suspect feigned a medical event in a cruiser vehicle and assaulted one of the officers after removing him from the vehicle to provide him with medical care. The officer was uninjured as a result of the assault.

The suspect was also found to be in possession of an identification document of an adult male other than himself, and he identified himself as such. Forensic Identification Unit Technicians positively identified the suspect through fingerprint analysis.
