THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop in Thunder Bay this evening, with the potential for strong wind gusts and large hail. These storms could produce hazardous conditions, including property damage and personal injury.
Strong wind gusts may toss loose objects, damage weak structures, break branches off trees, and even overturn large vehicles. Additionally, water-related activities may be unsafe due to sudden and violent gusts of wind over bodies of water.
Large hail can cause significant damage to property and can also result in injuries. It is crucial to be prepared for severe weather and to take cover immediately if threatening conditions approach.
Emergency Management Ontario advises residents to take cover without delay when faced with threatening weather. Remember, lightning poses a severe risk, killing and injuring Canadians each year. Always seek shelter when you hear thunder: “When thunder roars, go indoors!”
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are conducive to the development of thunderstorms capable of producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall.
