Northeast Region, July 12, 2024, 18:00 – Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services has confirmed one new wildland fire by early evening on Friday, July 12.

Wawa 5 (WAW005):

  • Status: Not under control
  • Size: 0.1 hectares
  • Location: Half a kilometre south of Highway 17, and 5 kilometres west of Rous Lake

Currently, there are 14 active wildland fires in the Northeast Region. All are being managed in the Cochrane fire sector, except for Wawa 5.

Fire Hazard Levels:

  • High: Across most of the Northeast Region
  • Low to Moderate: South of Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, and North Bay
  • Extreme: North of Cochrane

Safety Reminders:

No Drone Zone: Flying drones near forest fires is dangerous and illegal. It jeopardizes the safety of pilots, firefighters, and emergency personnel. Be safe and stay clear of forest fires.

Stay Clear of Waterbombers: When waterbombers approach a body of water, move to the shore to allow safe scooping. Waterbombers will not scoop if watercraft pose a hazard. Be safe and stay clear of waterbombers.
