Evacuation Notice: Little Red River Cree Nation

The Little Red River Cree Nation has issued an evacuation order for Garden River, with approximately 700 residents being evacuated. For the latest updates, residents are encouraged to stay in touch with the First Nation.

Alberta Emergency Alerts

As of July 10, at 1 p.m., there is one active Alberta Emergency Alert:

  • Evacuation Order: Little Red River Cree Nation – Garden River
    • Current Status: The community is not in immediate danger, but Highway 58 access remains a concern, prompting the evacuation order.
    • Evacuation Site: Residents are to evacuate to the Horizon Camp at John D’Or Prairie.

A wildfire is approximately 8.5 km north of Highway 58. Evacuees are advised to go to the Horizon Camp at John D’or Prairie, Alberta, where support is available. The response is led by local First Nation authorities, supported by Alberta Emergency Management Agency First Nations field officers.

Fire Bans and Restrictions

  • Human: 422 (includes recreational fires, agricultural incidents, and residential land wildfires)
  • Lightning: 127

Fire Ban in Forest Protection Area

Due to increasing wildfire danger, Alberta’s government is implementing a fire ban for the entire Forest Protection Area, effective at 4:00 p.m. All outdoor wood fires, including campfires and backyard fire pits, are prohibited. Use of charcoal briquette barbecues, fireworks, or exploding targets is also banned. Essential agricultural or industrial burning may be allowed with forest officer approval.

Roads and Highways

  • Current Status: Garden River is not in immediate danger, but Highway 58 access is a concern. No highway closures are currently in effect.

  • Hospitals: No closures reported.
  • Schools: No closures reported.
