SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON – On July 8, 2024, the Sioux Lookout Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested and charged three individuals for drug trafficking in the Municipality.
At approximately 1:45 PM, officers conducting a general patrol on Highway 72 initiated a traffic stop. The investigation revealed that the driver was suspended, the vehicle was uninsured, and the occupants were in possession of drug paraphernalia and illicit substances.
Arrest Details:
- Kenneth VENEMA, 61, from Thunder Bay, faces multiple charges under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act and the Canadian Automobile Insurance Act:
- Two counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance
- Producing False Insurance
- Additional charges under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act
- Elsa SHAKAKEESIC, 32, and Layla GRAY, 22, both from Thunder Bay, are charged with:
- Two counts each of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
All three accused remain in police custody and are scheduled to appear in Kenora Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court on July 9, 2024.
