“From time immemorial, Indigenous Peoples lived in freedom, faithfully passing down their traditions and culture from generation to generation. Many Indigenous people have celebrated the summer solstice on this day long before it was proclaimed ‘National Indigenous Peoples Day’ 28 years ago. June 21 marks not only the longest day of the year but also a new season of life, providing a perfect moment to celebrate the unique heritage and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Canada.
“Today, Canadians across the country proudly join in local celebrations in their communities. I encourage everyone to attend local events to experience and learn more about the varied and unique heritage of Indigenous people from coast to coast to coast.
“Common Sense Conservatives remain committed to ending the paternalistic ‘Ottawa knows best’ approach that replaced collaboration with control. We will work to put Indigenous Canadians back in charge of their resources, decisions, and lives.
