Northeast Region Update

New Wildland Fire:
Today, one new wildland fire was confirmed in the Northeast Fire Region.

  • North Bay 8 (NOR008): This 0.4-hectare fire was confirmed early today and is now out. It was located 1 kilometre east of West Aumond Lake.

Active Wildland Fires:

  • Cochrane 8 (COC008): A 35-hectare fire currently being observed. This fire is located about 57.5 kilometres northwest of Moosonee.
  • Cochrane 9 (COC009): A 6022-hectare fire also being observed. This fire is located east of Parson Lake and 8 kilometres west of the Quebec border.

Fire Hazard Levels:
The fire hazard in the Northeast Region ranges from low to high, with two areas experiencing extreme fire hazards north of Cochrane and Kapuskasing.

Safety Reminders:

  • Waterbombers: Stay clear of waterbombers. When they approach a body of water, move close to the shore so they can perform their scoop safely. Waterbombers will not scoop from a lake or river if watercraft pose a safety hazard.
  • Drones: Flying drones near forest fires is dangerous and illegal. Drones can put the lives of pilots, firefighters, and other emergency personnel at risk. Be safe and stay clear of forest fires.

Reporting Wildland Fires:

  • North of French and Mattawa Rivers: Dial 310-FIRE to report a wildland fire.
  • South of French and Mattawa Rivers: Dial 9-1-1 to report a wildland fire.
