KINGSTON, Ont. – As the first-ever PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Cup Series event in Kingston, Ontario, got underway Tuesday night in Kingston, Ontario, the world’s best bull riders showed up and showed out, with Boudreaux Campbell (Crockett, Texas) surging to an early lead at the PBR Kingston Classic, winning Round 1 of the tour stop inside Slush Puppie Place.

The opening night competition featured an impressive showing from the competing riders as they covered a torrid 50% of their bovine athlete opponents, going 15-for-30 across both Round 1 and the 5/5 Bucking Battle.

Campbell, however, rode a cut above the rest. After earning a re-ride, the 2020 PBR World Finals event winner and Rookie of the Year dominated Lil’ Hooch (Two Bit Bucking Bulls) for 85 points to win the opening round and earn 38 Canadian national points at the second Major of the season.

Unranked prior to the event Campbell, who rides for the Missouri Thunder in the separate PBR Teams league, rose to No. 22 in the national standings.

Weston Davidson (Strongfield, Saskatchewan) was second in Round 1 of the PBR Kingston Classic, collecting 28 Canadian points.

The surging Saskatchewan man made the requisite 8 atop Divorce Papers (Black Creek Rodeo Company) for 83.5 points. He remained No. 3 in Canada but is now within 361.5 points of No. 1 Cody Coverchuck (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan).

Coverchuk tied for twelfth in Round 1, earning 0.5 Canadian points. He rode Red Carpet (CJ Bucking Bulls) for 79 points, declining his re-ride opportunity.

Gilmar Santana (Ouro Preto, Brazil) and Brock Radford (De Winton, Alberta) tied for third in Round 1, each garnering 21 Canadian points.

Delivering matching 83-point scores, Santana topped Twist Off (Black Creek Rodeo Company), while Radford bested Clear The Village (CJ Bucking Bulls). Santana remained No. 5 in Canada, climbing within 456 points of No. 1 Coverchuk, while Radford rose from No. 27 to No. 19, inching within 604 points of the top spot.

Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) converted in Round 1, finishing fifth, and tied for the victory in the tour stop’s accompanying 5/5 Bucking Battle.

The Arizona Ridge Riders’ Tetz first made the whistle when he rode Hat Trick (CJ Bucking Bulls) for 82 points in Round 1. Advancing the special round, 2022 PBR Canada Champion Tetz then tied for the win in the 5/5 Bucking Battle when he outlasted Allemand Left (Wilson Rodeo) for 85.5 points.

Combined, Tetz netted 38 national points Tuesday evening. He rose three positions in the race for the 2024 PBR Canada Championship, and accompanying $100,000 bonus, climbing from No. 7 to No. 4. He is now 447.5 points back of No. 1 Coverchuk.

Coy Robbins (Camrose, Alberta) tied with Tetz for the 5/5 Bucking Battle win following his seventh-place effort in Round 1. Robbins rode Liquor Shakes (CJ Bucking Bulls) for 81 points in Round 1, followed by Wicked Water (Two Bit Bucking Bulls) for 85.5 points in the special round.

2017 PBR Canada Rookie of the Year Robbins earned 35 national points and rose from No. 16 to No. 12 in Canada. He now trails No. 1 Coverchuk by 533 points.

Action for the PBR Kingston Classic will conclude with Round 2 and the championship round on Wednesday, June 5. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. EDT.
