SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON – The Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is actively investigating a tragic incident that occurred in the community of Sioux Lookout.
Emergency Response on January 9
On the morning of January 9, 2024, members of the Sioux Lookout detachment, in coordination with North West Emergency Medical Services (EMS), promptly responded to a 911 call originating from a location on First Avenue North. Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of a female.
Identification of the Deceased
The deceased individual has been identified as Dawna MASAKEYASH, aged 32, and a resident of Sioux Lookout.
Collaborative Investigation
The OPP North West Region Crime Unit has taken charge of the investigation, under the guidance of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). Additionally, they are collaborating with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service to ascertain the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
Public Safety
Although authorities do not currently perceive any threats to public safety, there will be an augmented police presence in the area as the investigation progresses.
