Fatal Pedestrian Collision on Dawson Road

Thunder Bay – NEWS – It has been a rough past couple of days highlighting the need for more awareness and caution on our roadways.

On November 30, 2023, a tragic incident occurred on Dawson Road’s merge lane from Highway 11-17. A commercial vehicle collided with a pedestrian just before 2:30 p.m., leading to the male pedestrian being rushed to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, where he was pronounced dead. Police are currently working to identify and notify the victim’s next of kin.

Head-On Collision on Oliver Road

Later that day, at around 3:30 p.m., a severe head-on collision was reported in the 2200 block of Oliver Road. The crash involved an eastbound car and a westbound truck, resulting in the truck’s engine block being ejected. Three individuals had to be extricated by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Pedestrian Struck Near Intercity Mall

In another incident near Intercity Mall, a pedestrian was hit while crossing Fort William Road at an uncontrolled intersection. The collision occurred just before 8:00 p.m., injuring a 29-year-old male. His injuries, though serious, are not considered life-threatening.

  1. Stay Alert and Avoid Distractions: Drivers and pedestrians should always stay focused on the road and surroundings, avoiding distractions like mobile devices.
  2. Obey Traffic Signals and Signs: Adhering to traffic signals, especially at intersections, and observing road signs can significantly reduce the risk of collisions.
  3. Use Crosswalks and Controlled Intersections: Pedestrians should cross roads at designated crosswalks or controlled intersections to enhance visibility and safety.
