Historical Sexual Assault Investigation Leads to 19 Charges

(COCHRANE, ON) – One person has been charged for multiple offences after a historical sexual assault investigation. On November 24, 2023, members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) began an investigation into a historical sexual assault which occurred in the Town of Cochrane.

On November 26, 2023, an arrest was made and a search warrant was executed in Cochrane.

As a result of the investigation a 39-year-old from Cochrane was charged with the following: Sexual Interference Invitation to sexual touching under 16 years of age Incest Administer noxious thing Assault Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order (three counts) Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition (two counts) Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm (two counts) Traffick a schedule I substance – Methylenedioxyamphetamine (Ecstasy) Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine (two counts) Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid Cruelty to animals – unnecessary pain, suffering or injury (two counts)

The accused remains in custody following a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane.

The OPP will not release names to protect the identity of the victims. Victims of sexual assault are not alone.
