High-Speed Vehicle Leads to Arrests

FORT FRANCES – NEWS – A routine traffic stop by the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on Highway 11 near Couchiching First Nation resulted in the arrest of five individuals for drug offenses on November 25, 2023.

Charges and Legal Implications

Sheldon Thompson and four others were charged with Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine. This charge, under the Criminal Code, can lead to severe penalties upon conviction, including imprisonment, fines, and a criminal record.

Sheldon THOMPSON, 30-years-old, Fort Frances has been arrested and charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine. He was also arrested on the strength of outstanding warrants.

Justin BRAGG, 37-years-old, of Miscampbell Township; Kristen BRUYERE, 39-years-old, of Couchiching First Nation; Dimario DAVIS, 26-years-old, of Scarborough; and Shawn NELSON, 41-years-old, of Sudbury have been arrested and charged under the CC with Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine.

Court Proceedings and Community Involvement

The accused are due in court on January 15, 2023. The OPP encourages community members to report illicit drug activities anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
