TBPS lay Weapons Charges After Vehicle Stop

Thunder Bay – News- Traffic stop of a stolen vehicle leads to weapons charges

A member of the TBPS B.E.A.R. Unit observed a vehicle driving erratically on Walsh Street at approximately 10:45 a.m. on November 22, 2023. The officer ran the licence plate and was advise it was a stolen vehicle. A traffic stop was conducted by Primary Response Officers on Vickers Street just after 11:00 a.m. The male driver and female passenger were taken into custody for being in possession of stolen property.

Officers located a shot gun shell, cash and substances believed to be cocaine and fentanyl while searching the male . The search of the vehicle revealed a modified shotgun in the trunk. The modification made it a prohibited weapon. Both individuals were escorted to the Balmoral Police Station where they were lodged for a court appearance this morning.

43 year old Shawn BEHRENS has been charged with:

– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000,
– Proceeds of Crime
– Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule One Substance, Cocaine
– Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule One Substance, Fentanyl,
– Careless use of Firearm
– Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm,
– Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Weapon
– Possession of Firearm knowing it’s Possession is Unauthorized
– Unauthorized Possession of Firearm in Motor Vehicle
– Possession of Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition

24 year old Isabel TOZER has been charged with:
– Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.00

TOZER was released with a future court while BEHRENS was remanded into custody.
