THUNDER BAY, ON — In an inspiring act of community support, the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra (TBSO) and the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium (TBCA) have teamed up for a remarkable charitable event. Scheduled for November 24th, the concert, aptly named “Bhangra and Beyond”, is not just a musical feast but also a means to support the Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA).

A Symphony of Giving: Concert Tickets for Food Donations

This unique initiative offers a delightful twist: attendees can gain free admission to the concert by donating a non-perishable food item. In this season of giving, the TBSO and TBCA are emphasizing the importance of community support, especially for those in need of food assistance.

TBSO’s Commitment to Community Engagement

Andrea Sears, TBSO Board Chair, underlines the orchestra’s dedication to enriching the lives of community members. “Our aim is to be as actively engaged with the community as possible,” Sears states. This concert is seen as a fun, innovative way to support the local food bank while offering an exciting entertainment experience.

TBCA’s Enthusiastic Participation

Trevor Hurtig, General Manager of TBCA, shares the excitement, noting the immediate acceptance of this collaborative idea. He highlights it as a fantastic opportunity to give back to the community, especially during the holiday season.

Options for Ticket Holders

For those who have already purchased tickets for this event, the TBSO expresses gratitude for the continued support. Ticket holders have the choice to either allow their ticket purchase to support the cost of the show or redeem their tickets for flex coupons, which can be used for future performances, subject to availability.

RFDA’s Vital Role and Impact

Volker Kromm, Executive Director of RFDA, speaks to the importance of community in combating hunger. The RFDA annually provides $4.5 million worth of food to local households and serves over 20,000 meals each month through their soup kitchen.

A Concert with a Cause

Ryleigh Dupuis, TBSO General Manager, views the concert as a random act of kindness, a perfect opportunity to introduce the fun of symphony to a broader audience. The concert, featuring high-energy music conducted by Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, promises an evening of exhilarating musical and dance performances.

Donation and Ticket Collection Points

Donations for tickets can be made at Memorial Home Hardware from November 18th, at the RFDA distribution center throughout the week, or at the TBCA on the day of the show from 4pm until showtime.

The “Bhangra and Beyond” concert is set to take place at 7:30pm on November 24th at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium. It stands as a testament to the power of music and community in creating positive change.
