A major winter storm is expect to hit southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba early Monday lasting until Tueday

FORT FRANCES – WEATHER – Fort Frances, EMO, and Atikokan is warning of a winter storm expected from Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon. The storm brings with it heavy snow, with accumulations of 15 to 25 cm, and near-zero visibility at times due to heavy snow and blowing snow.

The snow is expected to begin lightly on Thursday morning and become heavier in the afternoon or evening. The heaviest snowfall is likely to occur on Thursday afternoon and night, and it should start easing up on Friday. Strong easterly winds, gusting up to 60 km/h, will contribute to the reduced visibility caused by blowing snow.

Although there is some uncertainty regarding the snowfall amounts and the location of the heaviest snowfall, winter storm warnings or snowfall warnings are expected to be issued as the storm approaches. Be prepared for hazardous driving conditions, with rapidly accumulating snow that could lead to reduced visibility and icy, slippery surfaces on highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots.
