THUNDER BAY – NEWS – The ‘Midnight Drainer’ has officials at 500 Donald Street East looking for solutions.

As reported earlier today, Boulevard Lake was drained last night when someone or a group of individuals manually opened the gates and drained the lake. The swimming area on the south side of the lake was basically gone.

The new attraction the water park was for all intents and purposes sitting on the bottom of the drained lake surface.

Current River east of the dam was not flowing.

At the newly opened dam, there was a large tree stuck in the fish ladder. There were large logs wedged into parts of the gateways as well.

Officials from 500 Donald Street East are trying to figure out how it happened.

Thunder Bay Police, and provincial officials have been notified.

What is hard to figure out is that the cameras were not installed. It is hard to understand why they had not been installed for the construction period.

Kayla Dixon with the city says that 500 Donald Street East has ruled out that any city employees opened the gates on the dam.

Now it likely will be up to police along with the public to help find out who is all responsible for this act of mischief.

It will likely take some time before the lake is full again. It is hard to say what ecological damage draining the lake has caused.

If you have information you can call Dispatch at 500 Donald Street East, or 684-1200 for Thunder Bay Police.
