City of Thunder Bay: Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued

THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the City of Thunder Bay and Superior West.

Scattered thunderstorms are forecast to develop this afternoon and will continue into early tonight. Strong wind gusts, large hail and locally heavy rainfall are the main threats expected with these thunderstorms.

Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

  • City of Thunder Bay
  • Cloud Bay – Dorion
  • Kakabeka Falls – Whitefish Lake – Arrow Lake

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Hazards:
Wind gusts up to 100 km/h.
Nickel to quarter sized hail.
Locally heavy downpours.

Timing: Mid afternoon into tonight.
