Red River Exhibition Marred by Shooting

WINNIPEG – Over the past two days as Winnipeg and southern Manitoba set heat records, it appears the heat ramped up some violence.

On June 20, 2022, at 7:03 p.m., West District General Patrol officers, with the assistance of the K9 Unit and Tactical Support Team, responded to an exhibition park in the 3900 block of Portage Avenue for a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located an injured 16-year-old male being tended to by on-site emergency medical services. The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.

At approximately 7:23 pm, a taxi cab was stopped in the area of Tyndall Avenue and Burrows Avenue. Three individuals were taken into custody, and a loaded handgun was recovered.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation. It is believed that the shooting occurred after an altercation.

A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
– Aggravated Assault
– Assault with a Weapon
– Discharge a Restricted Firearm or a Prohibited Firearm with Intent
– Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
– Possession of a Weapon
– Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
– Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
– Fail to Comply with Sentence (x2)
– Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x2)

A 15-year-old female of Winnipeg has been charged with:
– Aggravated Assault
– Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
– Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
– Possession of a Weapon
– Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
– Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition

They were both detained in custody.

A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing charges of:
– Aggravated Assault

He was released on an Undertaking (as mandated by the Criminal Code).

Stabbing – Domestic Dispute

On June 20, 2022, at 9:07 pm, Central District General Patrol officers, with the assistance of the Foot Patrol unit, responded to a hotel in the 100 block of Garry Street for a report of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, officers located an injured 35-year-old male and began to apply emergency medical care. The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.

A female suspect was located nearby and taken into custody. General Patrol officers, with the assistance of the Major Crimes Unit, continued with the investigation.

The incident is believed to be domestic, and the stabbing occurred after an argument.

Angel Mariah Angeconeb, a 26-year-old female of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
– Aggravated Assault

She was detained in custody.
