Virgin Galactic is selling tickets for space trips to the public. They cost $450,000. The aerospace company, owned by Richard Branson has announced plans to sell tickets to the general public to snag a seat for a future spaceflight.

The flights will take off from Spaceport America in New Mexico. Virgin Galactic said trips will last about 90 minutes.

Or for those of us here on Earth and in Thunder Bay, did you know you can ride the Superior Rocket? While not a journey into outer space, it is a thrilling and exciting way to explore our special spaces around Thunder Bay and beyond.

One of the three vessels operated by Sail Superior, the Superior Rocket launches from Marina Park and can do tours of the harbour, or you can venture out to the Welcome Islands and beyond for a really exciting and safe adventure.

NetNewsLedger was out on the Superior Rocket recently, and honestly it is an amazing way to get to see, and to learn about Thunder Bay and the incredible Lake Superior we are so fortunate to live on the shores.

Captain Gregory Heroux and his team put your comfort and safety at the top of the mark. Each trip starts with the safety talk, and if you have any questions or concerns the team is ready to answer them for you.

You are in one of their Mustang flotation suits, which are comfortable and quite warm. You might want to bring along a fleece sweater or gloves depending on the weather.

Your camera is a MUST!

Just remember you are on Lake Superior and it is just possible you will experience waves and splash along with your fun.

The “Superior Rocket” is a 12-passenger 30 foot Zodiac Hurricane 920. Zodiac is the trade name for a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) or Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB).

The Rocket is constructed of aluminum and ringed with large air-filled tubes. The Rocket is super-fast, lightweight, durable and incredibly seaworthy. The Rocket is powered by a pair of 250 horsepower outboard motors.

The Royal Canadian Navy and most militaries around the world use Zodiacs on various missions. Just think of James Bond. There is almost always a chase scene with a RIB.

Top speeds of 90 km/h

What does 90 km/h really mean? Time! More time to explore your destination. Less time driving or in some cases sailing; Spar Island, Porphyry Light House, Silver Islet, the Sleeping Giant.

See the entire harbour and the Kaministiqua river, round the big lakers and salties in the Bay, and still be back in town early enough to experience the great food and drink Thunder Bay is reknowned for savouring.

Trans Superior Safari

The “Rocket” is the vessel which is used for Sail Superior’s trips to Battle Island and the Slate Islands on our way to Sault Ste Marie, offering vistas of the over 1000 kilometres of coastline along Lake Superior.
