OPINION – Former President Donald Trump is a “Clear and present danger to American democracy”. That according to retired federal Judge J. Michael Luttig.
Luttig appearing live before the House Committee today and directly accused former President Trump and his allies of waging a “war on democracy” on Jan. 6, 2021. “Our democracy today is on a knife’s edge,” said Luttig, a former judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Luttig, who advised former Vice President Mike Pence is a Republican.
He is yet another of the former President’s supporters who has since abandoned Trump.
Luttig in a stark monotone closing statement warned the January 6th House committee that Trump remains a danger to America’s democracy because the former president has pledged to contest the next election for the White House in 2024.
“That’s not because of what happened on January 6th. It’s because to this very day the former president, his allies and supporters pledge that in the presidential election of 2024, if the former president or his anointed successor as the Republican Party presidential candidate, were to lose that election, that they would attempt to overturn that 2024 election in the same way that they attempted to overturn the 2020 election,” said Luttig.
The January 6th Hearings in the United States Congress are providing some riveting information and garnering a lot of attention.
Reportedly over twenty-million people are watching the hearings.
What these hearings are doing is putting all the pieces together in a new way, and for many it is connecting all the dots.
That a GOP Congressman was giving tours to some of the people who the next day stormed the US Capital, are not in itself criminal, but video images showing the individual taking pictures of stairways starts to make it appear it wasn’t a tour but a re-con mission.
Was the Congressman aware? That isn’t know, at least yet.
Former President Donald J. Trump who is known to distain most media, calling down CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times et al as “Fake News”, is not likely to be either impressed or pleased to see all of this information coming forward.
Trump’s comments on the media are basically now coming back to haunt him. One could almost say that the old adage “Never piss someone off who buys ink by the barrelful and paper by the ton” could play.
The reality here is that the media is simply reporting on what Congress is doing.
