THUNDER BAY – NEWS – The Thunder Bay Police Service’s Cyber Crimes Unit began an investigation into a local Internet user suspected of accessing material relating to child exploitation in May of 2022.
Investigators obtained the files in question and determined they were consistent with child pornography.
Further investigation led police to identify a local suspect. As a result, a search warrant for a home in the 500 block of Woodcrest Road was obtained and executed on May 26, 2022.
Members of the TBPS’s Community Oriented Response and Engagement (CORE) Unit assisted in the execution of the warrant.
An electronic device was seized during the search. Files reviewed from the devices were found to be consistent with child pornography and voyeurism.
The suspect turned himself in and was taken into custody on Friday, June 3.
Stephen Garry JAMES, 49 (DOB:1972/06/27), of Thunder Bay is charged with:
• Accessing Child Pornography
• Voyeurism
The public and media are asked to note that the family and given names of the accused are very common in this community. Please avoid misidentifying the accused with a non-charged individual of the same name.
JAMES appeared in bail court on Friday, June 3rd and is expected to be released with conditions and a future appearance date.
