KENORA – NEWS – The City of Kenora has an Evacuation Order Issued for Sedesky Road Area.
Kenora officials state, “Water is now approaching ten inches on Sedesky Road and was closed late yesterday afternoon. Effective immediately residents of the Sedesky Road and Wildwood Drive area should evacuate the area.
“Given the rapidly changing state and the expected rising of Lake of the Woods, Laurenson Creek and Winnipeg River, the City is advising that anyone with residences on West Bay Road and Second West Bay Road, Herbacz Road, Golf Course Road, Gould Road should be monitoring their homes and the possibility of flooding in their areas. Citizens should closely monitor the water levels on roads they travel in these areas, as the watch could be escalated to a recommended evacuation or evacuation order at any time”.
After researching safety standards The City of Kenora has adopted the following standards:
➡ Water up to road – Evacuation Alert
➡ Water over road but less than 15 cm or 6 inches – Evacuation Warning
➡ Water over road greater than 15 cm or 6 inches – Evacuation Order –Road Closed
Anyone living in flood plain should be prepared for the water levels to increase. Lake of the Woods Control Board anticipates water levels to increase 15 to 21 cm over the next week on Lake of the Woods.
Boaters are reminded to use caution when going past homes on waterways that are sandbagged as large wakes make a difference to the integrity of the sandbagged walls that have been built to protect the homes and docks with barrels etc. on them.
As lake levels continue to rise, roads crews are responding to numerous other roads issues. We are asking for the public’s assistance with reporting flooding or rising water levels in the City.
We are asking you to send an email to Service at service@kenora.ca to report water that is at concerning levels or flooded roads/areas. You may also call City Hall between Monday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., to report the concerns.
