THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue report that at approximately 11:00 am this morning firefighters responded to a call for service at a 10 story apartment building on the one hundred block of N. May St.
The caller stated that they could see smoke and fire coming from a sixth floor apartment.
The first arriving unit reported that they had light smoke coming from a sixth floor apartment. A second alarm was called for.
Once at the apartment in question a fire crew had to breach the door the make entry. Once inside the apartment the officer reported heavy black smoke with fire in the living room area.
The fire was quickly knocked down before it could spread to adjacent apartments. A primary search of the apartment was completed with no occupants being found.
Other arriving Pumpers were assigned to either back up for the crew inside the fire room or tasked with bringing equipment to the sixth floor with other crew checking on the floors above the fire in case an evacuation was needed. All floor above had very light smoke in the hallways so a protect in place order was given.
The fire was deemed under control by a senior officer on the fire floor. Ventilation took place to clear all smoke from the building. The room involved received heavy smoke and fire damage
The fire is under investigation at this time.
No tenants of the building or Fire fighters were injured during this incident.
