Polar Vortex Conditions Weakening

Thunder Bay – WEATHER – There is an end in sight for the Polar Vortex of Arctic cold that has been gripping the region. There are weather alerts out across Western Ontario, but there are no alerts in effect this morning for the Northern regions.

That is not to say it is not cold today. It is -32°C in Thunder Bay and the cold spot at 07:00 is -38.0 °C in Fort Frances.

Environment Canada reports that the extreme cold continues early this morning.

Wind chill values of minus 40°C to minus 44°C will continue early this morning before moderating later this morning as temperatures warm.

Extreme cold wind chill values near minus 40°C may occur over portions of the area again tonight into Wednesday morning.

Thunder Bay Weather Outlook

The cold is piercing this morning in Thunder Bay. The windchill is at -40°C and feels like it. Clear skies are forecast for Tuesday. The high for the day will be -12°C, far less frigid than it has been. Winds up to 15 km/h. The wind chill is at -40°C this morning and -19°C this afternoon.

Tonight, skies will be clear. Winds of up to 15 km/h are expected. The overnight low will be -25°C. Wind chill will be -20°C this evening and -32°C overnight.

Greenstone – Geraldton Weather Outlook

It is -32°C with the wind chill making it feel like -39°C in Geraldton to start the day. Skies will be clear today. Winds up to 15 km/h are forecast. The daytime high -15°C. Wind chill -40°C this morning and -19°C this afternoon.

Tonight will see clear skies. Winds will be up to 15 km/h. Low overnight will be -27°C. Wind chill -24°C this evening and -36°C overnight.

Sachigo Lake Weather Outlook

It is -19°C in Sachigo Lake this morning, the wind chill is at -27°C. We are calling for a mix of sun and cloud with a 60 percent chance of snow flurries for Tuesday. Winds of up to 15 km/h are expected. The high for Tuesday will be -15°C. Wind chill -31°C this morning and -21°C this afternoon.

Tonight, the weather will see partly cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of snow flurries this evening. Skies are going to clear overnight. Wind up to 15 km/h. Low -25°C. Wind chill -24°C this evening and -32°C overnight.

Fort Frances Weather Outlook
