Winter Weather

Thunder Bay – WEATHER – A winter storm has continued overnight. The Weather Advisories for Thunder Bay has ended. City crews have been out clearing the roads. However there are continued Snowfall warnings in effect for Nipigon, Marathon, Beardmore, and all of the eastern north shore of Lake Superior.

The cold spot in Ontario this morning is -24.1 °C or –11.4 °F recorded at the Red Lake Airport.

Highways to the east of Thunder Bay are in at best winter driving condition.

There is a blowing snow advisory in effect in the North for Washaho Cree Nation / Fort Severn.

In the city of Thunder Bay snow clearing crews are out and major roadways are clear.

The forecast is for cold far more February weather over the next week. As many are already saying of the warmer than usual weather, it has been nice while it lasted.

Snowfall warning in effect for:

  • Marathon – Schreiber
  • Nipigon – Rossport
  • Geraldton – Beardmore – Jellicoe – Macdiarmid
  • Nakina – Aroland – Pagwa
  • Wawa – Pukaskwa Park

Heavy snow continues today.

Locally heavy snowfall continues today and will taper to flurries early this evening. Additional snowfall accumulations of 5 to 10 cm is expected today.

Strong northwesterly winds gusting up to 50 km/h will develop this morning resulting in localized areas of blowing snow through the day.

Blowing snow advisory in effect for:

  • Fort Severn

Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow this afternoon through Saturday.

Snow and strong northwest winds gusting to 70 km/h will lead to widespread blowing snow beginning this afternoon. Reduced visibilities are expected as a result.

It is -14°C in Thunder Bay this morning. The forecast is calling for periods of light snow. Winds will become northwest 30 km/h gusting to 50 this morning. The temperature will remain steady near -14°C. The wind chill is at -19°C this morning and will drop to -26°C this afternoon.

Tonight expect mainly cloudy skies with a 40 percent chance of flurries. Winds will remain from the northwest at 30 km/h gusting to 50. The overnight low will be -19°C. With the wind chill it will feel like -24°C this evening and -31°C overnight. With the windchill there is a risk of frostbite.

Greenstone Geraldton Weather Outlook

The snow fall warning remains in effect this morning for Geraldton. It is currently -16°C at 06:30 am EST. There will be periods of snow and local blowing snow with another 5 centimetres forecast. Winds will be from the northwest 30 km/h gusting to 50. Through the day the temperature will fall to -16°C this afternoon. With the wind chill it will feel like -18°C this morning and -26°C this afternoon.

Tonight the snow should taper off to flurries. Winds will remain northwest 30 km/h gusting to 50. An overnight low of -23°C is forecast with the wind chill it will feel more like -26°C this evening and -34°C overnight. There is a risk of frostbite for exposed skin.

Sioux Lookout Weather Outlook

It is -23°C this morning to start the day. The forecast is calling for periods of light snow ending this morning then cloudy with a 60 percent chance of flurries. Winds will be from the northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40. The daytime high will be -19°C with a wind chill near -33°C. There is a risk of frostbite.

Tonight will see mainly cloudy skies with a 40 percent chance of flurries. Winds will be northwest 20 km/h gusting to 40. Low overnight will be -24°C. The wind chill -30°C this evening and -36°C overnight. There will be a risk of frostbite for exposed skin.

Washaho Cree Nation / Fort Severn

It is -18°C in Washaho for Friday. Snow is in the forecast. There is a blowing snow advisory in effect. Snowfall amounts of up to 5 centimetres are expected. Winds will be from the northwest at 20 km/h gusting to 50 becoming north 40 gusting to 60 near noon. The temperature will remain steady near -16 with the wind chill at -25°C this morning and -30°C this afternoon. There is a risk of frostbite to exposed skin.

Tonight, periods of snow and blowing snow will continue with another 5 centimetres expected. Winds will be from the northwest 50 km/h gusting to 70. The low over night will be -24°C. With the wind chill it will feel like -30°C this evening and -40°C overnight. Be sure to bundle up, exposed skin can freeze in minutes.

Kenora and Lake of the Woods

It is -22°C this morning in Kenora at 05:30 am CST. The weather service says periods of light snow will be ending this morning followed by mainly cloudy conditions with a 40 percent chance of snow flurries. Winds will be northwest 30 km/h gusting to 50. The daytime high will be -16°C. Wind chill is at -34°C this morning and -25°C this afternoon.

Tonight expect mainly cloudy skies with a 40 percent chance of flurries. Winds will be northwest 30 km/h gusting to 50. The overnight low will be -24°C. Wind chill -26 this evening and -37°C overnight. This means there is a risk of frostbite.
