KENORA – POLITICS – Eric Melillo MP for Kenora joins NetNewsLedger for a weekly update.

Dear Constituents,

I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe.

Securing Vaccines

Last week, I appreciated the opportunity to meet with Lake of the Woods District Hospital CEO Ray Racette and Dr. Sean Moore about the ongoing pandemic response. I’ve also been in contact with representatives from the federal government to advocate for speedy deployment of vaccines to healthcare workers and vulnerable community members in the Kenora riding.

Unfortunately, the Liberal government botched procurement of vaccines, and now provinces are at risk of running out. By early January, Canada had already fallen behind countries like the United States, the U.K., Bahrain, Denmark, Israel, Italy, and the United Arab Emirates. There’s no excuse for this, and we need to do better.

I can’t stress enough how important it is for as many Canadians as possible to get vaccinated. I will be holding the government to account until the Kenora riding has received our share of doses.

Support for Legions:

Legions across Canada have been struggling financially due to this pandemic. Last fall, I joined my Conservative colleagues in writing to the Minister of Veterans Affairs, urging him to support these institutions with emergency funding.

I was happy to announce that three Legions in the Kenora riding – Branch 63 in Dryden, Branch 238 in Ear Falls, and Branch 102 in Red Lake – have each received over $11,000 in federal support.

Unlocking the North:

It was a pleasure to join our Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole on his virtual tour of the northern Territories, for informative meetings with members of the Yukon Chamber of Commerce and the NWT & Nunavut Chamber of Mines. Creating opportunities in the North will be a priority for a Conservative government.

Working for You

I am fighting to support families, workers, and business owners who have been impacted by this crisis. I’ve appreciated the chance to meet with constituents to discuss the issues they are facing.

As always, if there is anything my office can assist you with, or if you would like to arrange a meeting, please call me at 807-468-2170 (Kenora) or 807-223-2182 (Dryden) or contact me by email at eric.melillo@parl.gc.ca.

Sincerely,

Eric Melillo
