Dawn Wells, best known for her role as Mary Ann on the television show Gilligan’s Island has died.
Wells died as a result of complications from COVID-19. She was 82 years old.
Though Wells appeared in numerous television shows, movies and plays, the role as Mary Ann was her most enduring, leading to gigs such as “castaway correspondent” for Australia’s Channel 9, and as a spokeswoman for the MeTV network.
Wells also wrote the book “A Guide to Life: What Would Mary Ann Do?” in honor of the 50th anniversary of “Gilligan’s Island.”
Unlike many television stars who get typecast from a role and then seek to find ways to fight it, Wells always seemed comfortable in her role.
Tina Louise who played the “Movie Star” Ginger on the show is the only surviving cast member.
