Thunder Bay – WEATHER – There are no weather alerts or warnings issued this morning for the region. The Cold spot in Ontario at -30.4 °C or -22.7 °F is Muskrat Dam.

NetNewsLedger has been tracking a Colorado Low over the weekend which at first was headed toward our region. Now however the tracking models have moved the system further east, and it will not be impacting our region.

Storm System Tracking

There is a Weather Travel Advisory in effect for the far eastern parts of Lake Superior.

That weather system is now calling for snow on Tuesday and Wednesday for Minnesota and Wisconsin and across Lake Superior.

NOAA Weather Service says, “A winter storm will move through the Midwest Tuesday and Wednesday. Snow is expected over the Northland Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. Snowfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected along the international border to 3 to 7 inches in southern Price County, WI. Confidence in snow amounts is medium at this time and models have been trending toward lower totals for our forecast area.

December 28 2020 – Weather advisory in effect for:

  • Sault Ste. Marie – St. Joseph Island
  • Searchmont – Montreal River Harbour – Batchawana Bay

Environment Canada says “Lake effect snow off Lake Superior is expected to develop this afternoon. Local snowfall amounts of 8 to 12 cm will be possible by later tonight. Westerly winds gusting to 60 km/h may create areas of blowing snow giving reduced visibility.

“The most intense activity is expected late this afternoon and through the evening hours when snowfall rates of a few centimetres per hour will be possible at times. Very poor visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow is likely.”

Thunder Bay Weather Outlook

It is currently -10°C in Thunder Bay with very light snow flurries. For Monday the forecast is calling for mainly cloudy skies and a 30 percent chance of flurries this morning. Skies will be clearing this afternoon. Winds becoming northwest 20 km/h this morning. The temperature will drop to -17°C this morning. The wind chill will be -27°C this morning and -22°C this afternoon.

Tonight skies will remain clear. Winds will be up to 15 km/h. The overnight low -22°C with the wind chill at -22°C this evening and -29°C overnight. This means a risk of frostbite for exposed skin.

Sachigo Lake Weather Outlook

It is -28°C in Sachigo Lake this morning under clear skies. The weather service is calling for a mix of sun and cloud. Wind will be from the west at 20 km/h gusting to 40. Monday’s high -19°C. The wind chill -42°C this morning and -29°C this afternoon. Frostbite to exposed skin can happen in minutes.

Tonight, there will be a few clouds however, increasing cloudiness near midnight then a 30 percent chance of flurries overnight. Winds southwest 20 km/h gusting to 40. Low -20°C overnight, however with the wind chill near minus 30°C.

Kenora and Lake of the Woods

It is currently -23°C in Kenora. For Monday expect a mix of sun and cloud. Winds northwest 20 km/h becoming light early this morning. Monday’s high -19°C. The wind chill -34°C this morning and -26°C this afternoon. Risk of frostbite.

Tonight, skies will be clear. Winds becoming south 30 km/h gusting to 50 before morning. The temperature will rise overnight to -16 by morning. Wind chill near -29°C. This means there is a risk of frostbite to exposed skin, bundle up.
