Thunder Bay – WEATHER – There are still weather alerts and warnings out across the region. Temperatures are colder across the region. The cold spot this morning in Ontario is -26.8 °C at the Kenora Airport.

The winter storm as moved east and north however.

Winter storm warning in effect for:

  • Armstrong – Auden – Wabakimi Park
  • Beardmore – Jellicoe – Macdiarmid
  • Gull Bay – Black Sturgeon Lake
  • Marathon – Schreiber
  • Nipigon – Rossport
  • Geraldton – Longlac – Caramat
  • Manitouwadge – Hornepayne
  • Nakina – Aroland – Pagwa

For these regions, Environment Canada says a significant winter storm continues this morning. Snow will continue this morning. Additional amounts up to 5 cm are possible before the snow gradually tapers to flurries from west to east by this afternoon.

Total snowfall accumulations of 35 to 50 cm are expected for this storm. Brisk northerly winds gusting 50 to 70 km/h are expected through this morning and will result in localized blowing snow over exposed areas.

Roads and highways are likely to be impacted. Travel is recommended only if critical. There are still some highways that are closed across the region at this hour.

Thunder Bay Forecast

The weather alert for the City of Thunder Bay has ended. The forecast is calling for periods of snow ending this morning then cloudy conditions. Winds will be northwest 40 km/h gusting to 60. The high for the day will be -16, the wind chill makes it feel like -33 this morning and -27 this afternoon. This means there is a risk of frostbite.

Tonight, as people hunker down at home, expect mainly cloudy skies. Winds will blow from the northwest at 30 km/h gusting to 50 becoming light before morning. The overnight low will be =23. Wind chill will make it feel more like -32. There is a risk of frostbite.

Geraldton Forecast

It is currently at 06:00 -20 in Geraldton. The forecast calls for snow and local blowing snow ending this afternoon then cloudy with 40 percent chance of flurries. Additional snowfall amounts of 5 centimetres are expected. Winds will blow north 30 km/h gusting to 60. High -17. The wind chill -34 this morning and -27 this afternoon. There is a risk of frostbite.

Tonight, the forecast is for partly cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of flurries. Wind will blow from the north 20 km/h becoming light near midnight. The overnight low will be -25. Wind chill minus 31 this evening and minus 26 overnight. There is a risk of frostbite.

Sachigo Lake

It is -23 in Sachigo Lake this morning. The weather is calling for mainly cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of flurries this morning. Skies should be clearing this morning. Winds up to 15 km/h. High -24, with the wind chill -31 this morning and -40 this afternoon. These windchill values mean there is a risk of frostbite for exposed skin.

Tonight, skies will become cloudy late this evening then there will be periods of snow. Amounts of up to 2 centimetres are forecast. Winds will be south 30 km/h. The overnight low -27. Wind chill near -42.

Kenora and Lake of the Woods

Our cold spot for Ontario this morning will see a mix of sun and cloud. There is a 30 percent chance of flurries early this morning. Winds north 20 km/h becoming light late this morning. The daytime high will be -20. The wind chill is -38 this morning and forecast for -24 this afternoon.

Tonight Increasing clouds late this evening. Wind becoming south 20 km/h after midnight. Low -24. Wind chill -26 this evening and -36 overnight. These windchill values mean there is a risk of frostbite for exposed skin.
