Northwestern Health Unit Confirms COVID-19 Death

Kenora – COVID-19 Update – Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) has confirmed the first COVID-19 death in reporting area.

NWHU says an elderly individual who had comorbidities has died. Out of respect for the family of the deceased, no further information will be provided about the individual at this time.

“On behalf of all of us at NWHU I would like to convey our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Dr. Kit Young Hoon, Medical Officer of Health of Northwestern Health Unit. “I am sorry we have such a tragic reminder of how dangerous COVID-19 is and how much we all need to take measures such as physical distancing, good hand hygiene, and wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing is a challenge, while we continue to find other ways to support each other and our communities.”

NWHU will continue work with health care providers, hospitals and long-term care providers to minimize the impact of COVID-19 in our communities.
