Kiiwetinoong – New Democrat MPP Sol Mamakwa has been re-nominated to seek a second term as the NDP candidate in the riding.

Mamakwa is the NDP Critic for Indigenous Issues, often going up against Premier Doug Ford and Indigenous Services Minister Greg Rickford.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath states, “Sol is a strong voice for his community, shining a light on the inequities people in Kiiwetinoong live and breathe each and every day. Shame on the governments past and present that have allowed First Nations in Northern Ontario to be deprived of clean drinking water and safe housing. New Democrats are committed to giving Northern Ontario families and communities the support they need and deserve in order to thrive – including access to health care, mental health supports, long-term care and home care options, and great schools close to home. We’re also committed to meaningful reconciliation, and that means consulting and partnering with Indigenous Nations and leaders as we plan to form government in 2022.”

Sol Mamakwa, NDP candidate for Kiiwetinoong and current MPP says, “It has been a tremendous honour to represent the peoples of Kiiwetinoong as their Member of Provincial Parliament for the past two years. Kiiwetinoong is a diverse riding that deserves a voice in the Ontario legislature. I am humbled to provide that voice and I vow to continue to be a strong advocate for the North. I understand the unique challenges that the people of Kiiwetinoong face, and I will continue to fight on their behalf for clean drinking water, adequate health care, and safe and affordable housing, among other things. Under Andrea Horwath’s leadership in 2022, the North will no longer be ignored, but will finally become a priority, as it deserves to be.”
