OTTAWA – Kenora riding MP Eric Melillo will be joining the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs.
Melillo, who was named Conservative Shadow Minister for Northern Affairs and FedNor last month, will be joining his Shadow Cabinet colleagues Cathy McLeod (Shadow Minister for Crown-Indigenous Relations) and Gary Vidal (Shadow Minister for Indigenous Services) as well as Conservative MP Arnold Viersen on the Committee.
Melillo said he’s excited to get to work for Northern and Indigenous communities, adding that new Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole has named the North as a priority. “With a committed Shadow Cabinet team and a strong presence on Committee, we’re in a very good position to fight for Northern and Indigenous communities,” Melillo said.
Northern issues hit close to home for Melillo. “As a Northern Ontario MP who represents 42 First Nation communities, getting results for Northern and Indigenous Canadians has always been top of mind,” he said.
Melillo cited food security, internet access, boil water advisories, and transportation as issues he’d like to make progress on this session of Parliament.
In the previous session, Melillo sat on the Standing Committee on Natural Resources.
