Dr Wilton Triggs’ desire to uplift the society, his grounded nature, and his exquisite knowledge has given him outstanding success as a plastic surgeon.

Plastic surgery is a vast and diverse field that requires a lot of patience and determination to master. The relentless studying for many years, and then being accurate in practice needs indispensable knowledge and innate expertise. There a few surgeons who deliver brilliant results in their profession and also work tirelessly to uplift the society, one such plastic surgeon is Dr Wilton Triggs.

Dr Triggs’ journey to achieve his objective of being a plastic surgeon is an inspiring one; he grew up in a poor rural family residing in rural north Alabama and had a very humble childhood. He was brought up in a single-parent household and never had any formal exposure to medicine. Dr Triggs is an accomplished plastic surgeon who faced and overcame the systematic racism, with his humane approach in his profession. As he is a very grounded man, he had learned to make the best out of what was available.

Dr Triggs was in sophomore year of college when he had the curiosity of getting to know the reason behind people falling ill. He had an urge to know what went inside those sick bodies, what was going wrong? This question led him to medicine, where he graduated with honours from Nashville’s Meharry Medical College. Dr Triggs was a bright student and had immense grasping power, he also got degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, in Chemistry with a concentration in biochemistry, minors in Mathematics and biology.

He had multiple interests in the field of medicine but felt a connection with plastic surgery, which itself offered different specialities, like burn surgery, pediatric surgery, aesthetic surgery, Craniomaxillofacial surgery, head and neck oncology, etc. Dr Triggs also liked the field of plastic surgery as it gave immediate results of a surgeon’s hard work. But the real connection with this field occurred when he learned that in plastic surgery, one needs to take limited tissue for solving a complex problem and make the best out of it. Dr Triggs performs both cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeries, and he stands by his saying that goes: “Stay hungry, Stay Humble, and Personal Progress is a daily endeavor”. Dr Triggs wishes to expand his scale of work, and provide his expertise and guidance to those in need. He wishes to uplift society and continually puts his efforts to do so.

With his exemplary knowledge, practical prowess, and an unaverred passion, Dr Triggs became the first black chief resident of the Plastic Surgery department in the University of South Florida.
