Update – July 19, 2020: Columbia Icefields Ice Explorer Rollover

Columbia Icefields AB – NEWS – The RCMP Jasper Detachment, along with the K Division Collision Reconstruction Analyst, Occupational Health and Safety, and Transport Officers from Alberta Commercial Vehicle Enforcement continue with the investigation of the fatal accident with the Pursuit Ice Explorer on the Columbia Icefields on Saturday.

There were 27 people on board the Ice Explorer when it rolled down the embankment. Three people were killed and 15 people are in serious or critical condition as a result of the accident.

The injured were transported from the site of the rollover to the triage site by various helicopter companies contracted by Parks Canada.  From there, the injured were transported to various area hospitals via STARS air ambulance and ground ambulance.

RCMP report that efforts are being made to have the Ice Explorer removed from the scene for further examination.

There are no new fatalities that have been reported to the RCMP at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
