Fire on 700 Block of North Syndicate Under Investigation

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Just after 08:30 AM today, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a report of a structural fire in the 700 block of North Syndicate Ave.

Upon arrival heavy smoke was coming out from the side door and window of the home. TBFR Incident Command ordered a second alarm response to the incident while initial arriving crews quickly prepared deployed a rapid attack and search of the interior.

Firefighters encountered heavy smoke in the interior and a contents fire was located and quickly extinguished in the basement of the home.

Additional fire crews provided ventilation operations and entered the structure to complete a search for any occupants of the home, however, crews determined the home was unoccupied at the time of the blaze.

Upon complete extinguishment of the fire by TBFR, fire command officers determined the circumstances of the fire were of a suspicious nature.

Smoke and heat damage to the interior of the home was extensive.

This fire is being treated as a crime scene. The property was secured and remains in the care and control of the Thunder Bay Police Service. The Thunder Bay Police Service and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue investigators are working in cooperation to complete an investigation into the cause of the incident. There were no injuries reported as a result of this fire.

A total of five pumper/rescues, a Command unit, and an aerial ladder responded to this incident
