Charges Laid Against 21-year-old in Thunder Bay’s Seventh Homicide

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay Police Service has moved quickly to lay charges of second-degree murder against a 21-year-old woman connected to a June 19 homicide in the seventh homicide in the city this year.

Originally, Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to a residential address in the 300 block of Dawson Street following reports of a serious assault just before 2 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2020.

Paramedics with the Superior North EMS were also dispatched due to reports the individual had sustained serious, and possibly life-threatening, injuries. When officers arrived they located a female who appeared to be the victim of a recent assault.
Despite life-saving efforts by police and paramedics, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Shortly after arriving on scene officers located and arrested a suspect.

Lyrina JACOB, 21, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Second-Degree Murder. She appeared in bail court on Saturday, June 20, and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date of Friday, June 26, 2020.

A post-mortem examination for the victim is scheduled to take place Saturday in Thunder Bay. As of Saturday, police continued to hold a scene in the 300 block of Dawson Street.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
