OPP Arrest Helen Mekanak and Tommy Tait for Drug Trafficking

SIOUX LOOKOUT – Two individuals from Sachigo Lake have been arrested and charged with drug trafficking after the OPP investigated an occurrence at a hotel in Sioux Lookout.

Helen MEKANAK, a 34-year-old woman and Tommy TAIT, a 28-year-old man were arrested at a hotel in Sioux Lookout following a complaint of unwanted parties at the establishment. OPP state that on Thursday afternoon, May 21st, 2020, the police investigation led to the arrest of the two individuals and the seizure of suspected illicit substances including cocaine, methamphetamine, morphine, suboxone, gabapentin, methylphenidate, and hydromorphone, with an estimated street value of over $25,000.

Helen MEKANAK, 34 years old, and Tommy TAIT, have been charged with the following offences contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

  • Possession of a Schedule Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – eight counts,
  • Possession of a Schedule Substance – eight counts.

The co-accused are being held in custody pending bail hearings.
