WINNIPEG – Winnipeg is on track to break a dubious record. The city has recorded the 16th homicide of 2020.

On May 21, 2020, at approximately 9:30 am, Winnipeg Police General Patrol Units responded to a residence in the 700 block of Selkirk Avenue for a report of a male that had been shot. Responding units located an adult male on the front steps of the house suffering from gunshot wounds. The 23-year-old victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced deceased.

Winnipeg Police media spokesperson Rob Carver says that the killing is not random, police suspect the victim and the killer were known to each other. Winnipeg Police also knew the victim.

On the homicide by gunfire, Carver stated, “I cannot remember the last time we had a situation where we arrested somebody with a firearm or a firearm-related offence, and that gun was legally in their possession.”

This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
