Having Fun in Isolation: 5 Ideas to Keep Boredom at Bay

Let’s face it; the biggest problem for most of us that are stuck in isolation is boredom. Yes, the coronavirus is a scary thing, but with everyone at home, the spread will end in a couple of months (at least that’s what the WHO says).

But until we can get outside, we have to find ways to deal with boredom. Luckily, you can do basically anything at home. A lot of people are looking at this quarantine as an opportunity to do something they’ve neglected, and you can, too.

Instead of sitting at home thinking about what you’re missing out, here are some things you can do to make the time pass faster and keep boredom at bay

Find a good book to read!

Books; what are those? Reading a book sounds cliché, but most people actually don’t read them. In most cases, it’s because they simply don’t have the time. Well, you have all the time in the world at the moment.

Books are great for keeping your mind occupied and wander away into another world. A good book can help you pass the time easily while forgetting about the current situation. Our suggestion is to read something positive, inspiring, and motivational.

However, you can also read something that can help you with your work or any other aspect of your life. Luckily, there are many books available online, and everyone has a Kindle today.

Online games are a great pastime!

Everyone loves gaming. If you never played games, this is the opportunity to try them out. There are literally hundreds of thousands of online video games you can play. You can play RPG games, sports, shooting games, small indie games, slots, bingo, and much more.

What’s even better is the fact that you can find lots of free games. Are you looking for free Vegas slots, a car driving simulation, or a strategy game to play with your friends? No matter what’s your poison, you can find a game to pass the time with ease.

It’s all about finding something you like. There isn’t a single person that doesn’t like video games; they just haven’t found the right one.

Exercises around the house

Are you feeling bored? Are you full of energy you can’t let out? It’s time to do some physical activity! A lot of people were “meaning to start going to a gym” but never got the chance. Here’s your chance. Use this time to get into shape, lose weight, build muscle, or get stronger.

No matter what your goals are, you can start reaching them by exercising at home. There are a lot of good exercises you can do without any equipment. Here are some you can do:

  • Pushups
  • Lunges
  • Tricep dips
  • Squats
  • Hip bridges
  • Mountain climbers

With these exercises alone, you work on your whole body. If you need more, there are tons of exercises you can find online along with demonstrations. Get in shape and rock the body you always dreamed of having.

Netflix, HBO, and other online streaming services

Just because all theatres are closed doesn’t mean you can set up your own at home. With Netflix or HBO, you can get all of the best films, documentaries, and TV series out there. Get some snacks, some soda, sit back, and enjoy.

You can spend some quality time with your family or your partner in front of the TV. If you are home alone, watch a show with someone simultaneously, and then share your thoughts about what you’ve seen.

Good comedies can cheer you up and help you relax. On the other hand, you can watch something educational if that’s your cup of tea. These streaming platforms are really cheap, and you can watch as much as you want.

Find a hobby

This is the best opportunity to find a new hobby. You can awaken your old hobbies or find a new one. A hobby can be a lot of fun and help you learn new skills. Try and learn to play the bass, practice home décor, do some gardening, learn cooking, and so on.

Puzzles and crosswords are an enjoyable hobby that can entertain the mind and improve your cognitive functions. No matter what comes to mind, try it out. You have the time, and there is no risk involved.

You might feel lazy now, but it’s all about making that first step. Once you develop a hobby, you will take every chance you get to have fun with it.

Conclusion

We hope you found something that will help you have fun while we are all social distancing. Try out several things and see what sticks. There are many options; you just need to be a bit creative. Stay safe!
