FORT WILLIAM FN – Chief and Council on Fort William First Nation will keep the community closed to outsiders up to at least May 1st, 2020. The decision was released at a media conference outside Bannon’s Gas on the First Nation.
The Chief and Council under the leadership of Chief Peter Collins has restricted access to only residents, members, and people working inside the borders of Fort William First Nation.
Chief Peter Collins confirms that so far, Fort William First Nation has no COVID-19 virus positive tests up to now.
Like several other First Nation communities in the district, security checkpoints, and a curfew is in effect. Mishkeegogaming First Nation and Gull Bay First Nation has similar protocols in place. It is expected that Gigoogaming First Nation will be implementing similar protocols.
